Yyetta Lee Brehm Whitehead of Sugarcreek Township, Ohio, departed for her heavenly home on April 29, 2024. She was born on December 14, 1946, to the late Charles Frederick and Zadie Smith Brehm of Westminster MD. The oldest of six siblings, Yyetta is proceeded in death by her brothers Charles F (Diana) Brehm Jr and Patrick C (Chris) Brehm. She is survived by her sister Deborah C Brehm, her brothers William E (Dorothy) Brehm and John D Brehm, and sister-in-law Linda W Phillips. As a youth, Yyetta was active in 4H and 4H Allstars, and a flautist for the Westminster High School Owls Band. Yyetta received a BA in Mathematics, Economics, and Education at Western Maryland College where she participated in many student activities including the Lutheran Student Assoc, tutoring, and the ROTC rifle team She served as an intern at Health, Education, and Welfare during the LBJ Administration. She taught Math at Westminster High School before marriage. She married John “Doug” Whitehead on June 21, 1969, at St. John's (Leister's) Lutheran Church.
Yyetta traveled the world supporting her devoted husband in his military career in the US Air Force. She provided a universe of opportunities for her daughters Bethany R Whitehead, Antonia L Dailey, and Jennifer W (Frank Losacco) Whitehead. She nurtured her grandchildren Morgan Z Dailey, Hunter R Dailey, Reagan M Dailey, and Patrick H Dailey with never-ending love. Yyetta also has numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Yyetta served as a poll worker/precinct judge for many years. She dedicated over 20,000 hours to Family Services at the various duty stations, primarily contributing to the provision of a layette for each baby born at the base hospital. She was always knitting baby sweaters even while watching a movie in a darkened theater. She was an extremely active member of Abiding Christ Lutheran Church of Fairborn, Ohio participating in the choir and serving on multiple ministry teams. She generally made the world a better place and will be greatly missed.
Celebration of life is June 15th at 11 A.M. at Abiding Christ Lutheran Church 326 E Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor June Fryman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. A graveside service at St. John’s Lutheran Church 827 Leister’s Church Road Westminster MD at a date yet to be determined. Donations in her memory may be made to Abiding Christ Lutheran Church.
