Saul Alcocer

April 10, 1954 — March 31, 2024

Saul Alcocer, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the age of 69, in Beavercreek. OH.

Born to Ramiro and Demetria Alcocer in Eagle Pass Texas, the family moved to Santa Maria, CA when Saul was approximately 5 years old. He attended Robert Bruce Elementary, El Camino Jr. High and Santa Maria High School, graduating in June of 1972. In September of 1972 Saul joined the military branch of the United States Marine Corps, serving proudly for 2 years. He was honorably discharged in September of 1974. He went on to work with the County of Santa Barbara upon discharge. In May of 1975 he met his future wife MaryEllen Curiel during a coffee break time at her parents’ bakery, The Mission Bakery. Breaks there became a regular occurrence. The two married on October 15, 1977 and had two sons, Larry and Richard.

Saul later became an architectural drafter, working for Hall, Hurley, Deutsch and Martinez & Associates architectural firms. He then went on to become a construction superintendent with many local area companies, including the Army Corps of Engineers. His knowledge and skill of carpentry together with drafting allowed him to draft and build many homes and remodel his own home with a beautiful addition in 2004 for his family. Saul also enjoyed fishing and hunting and had many trips with his brother Peter, cousin, Jesse Gauna and best friend Doug Biddle.

He loved to tell jokes and make others laugh, even if he told the same joke over and over! He always said, “laughter is good for the soul” , one of his favorite quotes. In 2021, Saul and MaryEllen moved to Ohio along with their son Richard and granddaughter Ryiah, to Beavercreek. There they reunited with their son Larry and his family, Jennifer, Sophia and Stella. They shared many meals together and lots of fun summer times swimming over at Larry’s pool. Saul also became a member of the American Legion, Post 763, where he made several friends. He also had a whole new crowd to tell his jokes to!

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Demetria (Gauna) and Ramiro Alcocer; brothers, Ramiro, Luis, Demetrio, and Isaac; as well as his best friend, Doug Biddle. Saul is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, MaryEllen; son Larry, and family, Jennifer, Sophia, Stella; son, Richard, and granddaughter, Ryiah; siblings, Christina Freitas, Peter Alcocer, Ivan Alcocer, Anna Davie; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Maple Avenue Church of God, 1352 S. Maple Avenue, Fairborn, OH 45324. The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M., until the time of service, Pastor James Clayton officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third Street, Dayton, OH 45428.

The family would like to thank Dayton Hospice who provided excellent, loving care to Saul and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Dayton. A special thanks to Rob, Michelle, and Amelia; “We will always remember you—Thank you and God Bless you!”
