U.S. Army SSG (Ret.) Leonard “Lenny” LaPoma, age 57 of Dayton passed away February 18, 2024. He was born December 7, 1966 in Belleville, New Jersey, the son of the late Nicholas and Marie (Perillo) LaPoma. Lenny served his country as a vehicle mechanic in the U.S. Army, retiring after 22 years of service. He was a longtime member of the VFW 657 in Riverside. Lenny enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, fishing and crafting. He is survived by his husband, Timothy; daughter, Kanden LaPoma; son, Zachary LaPoma; grandson, Giovanni Garcia; two brothers, Nicholas (Donna) LaPoma, Anthony (Gayle) LaPoma; sister, Linda (Noel) Rodriguez; mother-in-law, Sandy Zemanek; brother-in-law, Bill (Tina) Rohde; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, where a funeral will be held on Thursday February 29, 2024 at 9:30 A.M., Pastor Adam Wirring officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
