NELSON, Kevin J. April 14, 2023 age 66, beloved husband of 36 years to Kimberly (née Schmidt) Nelson; devoted father of Brittany (Paul) Demmy, Hailey (Logan) Fehrenbach and Molly (Jordan Karson) Nelson; loving grandfather of Louisa Demmy; predeceased by his father Martin Nelson; also survived by his mother, JoAnne Nelson and sisters, Amy (Kevin) Zook and Ellen (Timothy) Herget, as well as many very special brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Kevin was born in Buffalo, NY and raised in Cheektowaga, NY. He was raised in the Presbyterian Church where he was involved in many activities as a youth. During this time, he was also very active with The Boy Scouts of America, earning the prestigious title of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Cleveland Hill High School in 1975. Kevin continued his education, earning his B.A. in Anthropology from Buffalo State College and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from SUNY Buffalo. In 1982, following completion of his undergraduate work, he accepted a position at Wright Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio. He applied his engineering knowledge to his work at what was then known as the Foreign Technology Division (now NASIC). During this time Kevin became an active member in the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn serving through the years as a deacon, Sunday school and Confirmation teacher. This is also where Kevin and Kim met and were married. Kevin was a loving and devoted husband to Kim and father to their three daughters. Kevin became very active once again in Scouting, serving as Assistant Scout master and Scout Master of Troop 72, BSA Tecumseh Council. He went on to further his education at Wright State University where he completed his MBA in 1999. Kevin retired in 2021 as a Senior Program Manager after 39 years at NASIC, serving as an integral part of many important projects and receiving several awards and honors for his work. Kevin was well respected by his many colleagues. Kevin will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The family will receive friends on Friday April 21, 2023 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 22, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at the Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Dr., Xenia, Pastor Jeff Bandy officiating.  A private interment will follow at the St. Paul Cemetery in Yellow Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tecumseh Council BSA, 326 S. Thompson Avenue, Springfield, OH 45506 -or- Maryvale Drive Presbyterian Church, 425 Maryvale Dr., Cheektowaga, NY 14225 -or- Faith Community United Methodist Church, Xenia.
