Carolyn "Gus" Livorno, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022 after a brief illness.
Carol was born in Canton, Ohio June 25, 1942 and was raised primarily in Woodsfield, Ohio. She grew up playing softball and was an avid sports fan her entire life.
Carol married Joseph Livorno and had two daughters, Jill Hayslett (Nelson) and Jennifer Strachan (David). Carol loved to tell the story of how she met Joe. Her mother and her roommates’ mothers visited the young ladies in Columbus and had a little too much fun at a bar. Joe and his buddies overheard the ladies singing the Woodsfield high school song and came over to introduce himself since he was from nearby Shadyside. The story goes that Joe helped Carol escort her mother back home.
When Carol and Joe married, Carol started her life as a military wife and mother and she made the most of it. They lived in Milwaukee, Germany, Ft. Bliss, TX and Nellis AFB, NV. Being far away from family, her neighbors and friends became her new family. She planned neighborhood parties that helped make it a community. She made sure her girls enjoyed all the holidays. While living in the hot climates of Ft. Bliss and Nellis AFB, she managed to have gardens and green grass. She even won the yard of the month award!
Once back in Ohio, they settled in Fairborn where Carol had extended family. On a weekly basis, she helped her aunt with paperwork and was always available to help others. She was a reading tutor and a Woodsfield Ohio VFW member. She was very active in her grandchildren’s activities and lives.
Carol, who was an accomplished bowler, started bowling when she was a young wife in Texas and continued to bowl into her 70s. She cherished all her bowling friends she made over the years. She really loved wearing crazy socks on bowling days.
To know Carol was to love her. She was kind, fun and a good sport. She loved watching Jeopardy with her son in law, Nelson.
Carol so enjoyed her 80th birthday celebration this past June where friends and family came to celebrate with her. Thanks to everyone who attended and those who sent well wishes.Trying to list all her special friends and family is impossible but once you were her friend, you were a friend for life. Thanks for making her life special.
Probably the biggest joy of Carol’s life was her grandkids! Carl (Amy) Hayslett, Brian Hayslett, Adam Hayslett, Emily Hayslett, Jason (Kelsey) Strachan and Dana Strachan. She also had two great grandchildren, Levi and Isla Strachan.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Livorno, her parents, Norman and Ruth Hogue, and her siblings, Kaye Hogue, Bill Hogue, and Patricia (Bob) Hogue Hissom.
