Virginia L. "Ginny" Varner

Virginia L. “Ginny” Varner, age 80 of Westerville, died on Tuesday December 26, 2017 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.  She was born September 25, 1937 in West Liberty, KY, the youngest of 10 children of the late Emmet and Maude Adams.  Ginny attended Fairborn High School, Bob Jones University, Blue Mountain School for Girls and graduated from Central State University.  She earned her Master of Education degree from Miami University.  Ginny was employed in various jobs including a “car hop” for the Hasty Tasty, secretary at Battelle, preschool director in Chattanooga, TN but spent the best years of her career as a beloved elementary school teacher in Fairborn and Worthington.  She is survived and deeply missed by her devoted husband of 59 years, Kenneth H. Varner; loving mother to Art (Heidi) and Cindy (Kyle) Campbell; adored grandmother to Maddy, Grant, Gretchen, Casey, Kirby and Carly.  During her years of retirement, she enjoyed traveling around the globe and wintering in Panama City Beach.  An avid cook, shopper, baker and entertainer, she loved hosting family gatherings where she ensured that each person had their favorite dessert and all were welcome.  She was the best listener and advice giver with sparkling eyes and an infectious laugh—her brownies, cookies and thanksgiving stuffing were legendary.  The family wishes to thank the amazing caregivers at the Memory Care Unit at Parkside and Vitas Hospice.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday December 30, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor Gene Cline officiating.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice or the Memory Care Unit at Parkside Village, 730 N.
