Vernon Henry Brown, age 87 of Columbia, SC (formerly Fairborn, OH) passed away, peacefully, Friday, January 3, 2025, at Majestic Care of Middletown. He was born February 24, 1937, in Petersburg, VA, the son of the late Samuel Gowan and Louvenia (Richardson) Brown.
Vernon led a life characterized by his easy-going nature, keen sense of humor, and commitment to his family.
Vernon proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Air Force with more than thirty (30) years of combined service. After his deployment as an airline mechanic, he embarked on a successful career as a consultant at Wright-Patterson AFB, where he devoted many years of his life to ensuring the safety and reliability of the United States Air Force.
Education was also a significant aspect of Vernon's life; he earned a master’s degree in business administration, from the Central State University, Wilberforce, OH; embodying his belief in lifelong learning and personal growth. Throughout his life, Vernon cherished his family above all else. He also had many passions, one of which was the annual family reunion. Moreover, he treasured his family history and participated in organizing dates and locations each year. His proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly his daughter and grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
Outside of his professional achievements, Vernon had a passion for hobbies that included fishing, gardening, traveling, and tinkering around the house. These activities not only provided him with enjoyment but also allowed him to connect with nature and his loved ones in meaningful ways. Furthermore, Vernon was a member of the NAACP and affiliated with the Masons.
Vernon leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and love that will continue to resonate with all who knew him. Vernon will be missed greatly especially, at the next family reunion! May his memory be eternal. In addition to his parents, Vernon is preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Brown; second wife, Marva Brown; siblings, Viola Morton, and Valerie Jackson. He is survived by his only daughter, Veronica O. Louis; sister, Valencia Miles; granddaughters, Sheldra (Justin) Hunter, Olivia Louis; one great-grandson, Justin Hunter, as well as extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M., NOON, Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, OH 45324. The family will receive from 11:00 A.M., until the time of service Pastor Eric D. Meade officiating. Burial to follow at Byron Cemetery, Fairborn, OH.
