Schivley, Verna M., age 94, of Kettering (formerly from Fairborn), died August 27. She was born in New Matamoras, Ohio, February 20, 1924, daughter of Edwin and Effie Fulmer. She graduated from Bloomfield High School and Ohio University, and attended the Air Force Institute of Technology, and Wright State University. Verna taught elementary school in Lykins, Ohio, and Special Education in Xenia and Germantown, Ohio. While working at Headquarters Air Material Command she volunteered to work as a Position Classification Analyst at the Hawaiian Air Depot, Territory of Hawaii, for the duration of World War II. She retired from WPAFB in December 1984 from her position as a Contracts Data Manager of Electronic Countermeasures in the F-15 System Program Office. Verna served as a Peer Counselor and on the Board of Trustees for the Fairborn Senior Center. She was a Deacon for the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn, a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, and a Red Cross Nurse’s Aide. In 1985 she was preceded in death by her husband, George (Bill) Schivley. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Cathy Schivley of Lake Orion, Michigan; daughter, Kathi Schivley and partner, Ann Dannhausen of Richmond, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Doug and Cathy Schivley of Kettering. She had four grandchildren, Jackie and Brooke of Clarkston, Michigan, Nathan of Columbus, Ohio, Emily of San Diego, California, and six great-grandchildren. She had two sisters and one brother now deceased. Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn (1130 Highview Drive) on Friday August 31, 2018 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. with a short service following visitation, Pastor Karen Cassedy officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Alzheimer’s Association –or- the American Cancer Society.
