Leonard D. Garten (Len) MSgt., USAF (Retired) of Kettering, OH passed to a higher plane on December 4, 2022. He was the only child of Rev. John M. and Della A. Garten of New, WV. Len graduated from Richmond High School and enlisted two days later in the USAF. He served duty in North Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam in addition to duty stations in Georgia, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C. He retired after 22 years and had a successful second career in Ohio with the Prudential Insurance Company. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his wife of 55 years, Ida Lee Garten, in 2011. He leaves to cherish many memories his sons, Michael Duane and wife Betsy of Seattle, WA, David Neal and wife Lari of Centerville, OH, as well as his granddaughter, Chelsea and several great-grandchildren. Len was an active member of Christ’s Church in Riverside for many years and loved his church family as his own. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Inurnment with military honors will follow at the Byron Cemetery, Fairborn. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to The Dayton Foodbank, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, or your favorite charity.
