USAF CMSgt. (Ret.) Merton “Mert” Lee Sayce, age 77 of Fairborn, passed away Wednesday January 10, 2018. He was born September 12, 1940 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, the son of the late Lloyd and Evelyn (Weeden) Sayce. Mert served his country in the United States Air Force in fuel supply (POL), serving two tours in Vietnam from 1965-1966 and 1970-1971; and followed with employment in civil service, retiring after 38 years of combined federal service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 526 and the VFW Post 6861. Mert loved the Air Force; and enjoyed restoring cars, woodworking, and volunteering at the base wood hobby shop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Arthur Rolston. Mert is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nina; a brother, Dennis Sayce; a nephew, Denny Sayce; and many friends. A post everlasting ceremony and military honors will take place on Monday January 15, 2018 at 5:45 P.M. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the National Museum of the United States Air Force or the American Heart Association.
