Alfred Joel Hollifield, passed away Feb 15, 2018 in Sebring, FL. He was born May 31, 1918 in Red Ash, TN. He grew up in the I.O.O.F. Orphanage in Springfield, OH after losing his mother at age 12. Alfred joined the U.S. Army Cavalry at a young age and then transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he finished his education and went on to college. He fought in WWII and retired as Major after 20 years of service, before going on to teach 6th grade in Kettering, OH for 20 years. Alfred had also obtained his pilots license and had a love of flying which he enjoyed sharing with family. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 yrs, Caroline Elizabeth Keller; brother, Lawrence; 2 sisters, Stella Forshee, Loriene Cosson. He leaves behind his 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Carol Jean Carver; Thelma Boone, 2 brothers, Danny Hollifield, Phillip Hollifield. Alfred loved spending time with family and actively lived out his retirement in Sebring, FL near 3 of his children. A funeral service will be held on Sunday February 18, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service. Graveside service with military honors will be Monday February 19, 2018 at 1 P.M. at Dayton Memorial Park.
