Usaf Lt. Col. Edmund J. (Ret.) Costello

USAF Lt. Col. (Ret.) Edmund J. Costello, age 80 of Fairborn, passed away Friday July 13, 2018 at the Soin Medical Center.  He was born March 27, 1938 in Englewood, NJ, the son of the late Edmund J. and Mary Ellen (Owens) Costello.  Ed served his country in the US Air Force, first as a missile launch officer, and retiring as a financial officer at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; and followed with employment in civil service at Wright-Patterson AFB, retiring in 2005 after 45 years of combined federal service.  He was a longtime member of Mary, Help of Christians Parish in Fairborn and more recently of the Catholic Chapel Community at Wright-Patterson AFB as well as a member of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Brendan in 1980; sister, Joan Costello; brother, USCG Vice Admiral John D. Costello and his wife Roseline.  Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bernadette; three children, Siobhan Tirado, Eamon (Shelley) Costello, Aylish (Jim) Connolly; four grandsons, Brendan, Tristan, Declin, Conor; three step-grandchildren, Owen, Brennan, Mairen; a sister, Maureen (Robert) Bauman; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 18, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday July 19, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Prairies Chapel, 682 Chapel Lane, Wright-Patterson AFB, Father Donald Moss Celebrant.  Burial with military honors will follow at 1 PM at Dayton National Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School, 1301 N.
