Tyler Douglas Brady

November 2, 1984 — December 10, 2022

Tyler Douglas Brady passed away on December 10, 2022. He was 38 years old. He was welcomed into the arms of his loving parents, Victor W. Brady and Jean E. (Harnish) Brady on November 2, 1984. Born at Sheppard AFB, Texas, he spent his first 19 years enjoying life as a cherished “Air Force Brat” living in New Hampshire, Ohio, California, Texas and Germany.

As a child, Tyler cheered for the Oakland A’s, took pride in being a cub scout, and loved collecting baseball cards. Going on adventures with his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of his favorite pastimes, as was reading about the Turtles. Those books contributed to his long-lasting love of reading. His earliest favorite book was The Monster at the End of This Book…starring Grover (Sesame Street). This love of reading was shared with the children in his life. Adopting his uncle’s taste in children’s literature, The Monster at the End of This Book became his nephew, Jared’s, favorite childhood book.

In his early teens Tyler discovered a fantasy trading card game called Magic:  The Gathering. In addition to collecting the artistic cards in order to put together a winning deck, the game require skill, some luck, imagination, calculation, storytelling, and a great deal of patience.  Tyler loved this game so much so that he carried it into adulthood with him. When his nephews, Jared and Travis were old enough to learn to play, he taught them the game often commenting on how he enjoyed sharing the game with them. Tyler was always willing to share his passions and patient enough to teach skills and concepts needed to succeed.

Something else that Tyler enjoyed immensely was Star Wars in every form from books to movies to memorabilia to pizza boxes. Yes, pizza boxes that were used by Pizza Hut to deliver their pizza to customers doors. Tyler so wanted a set of these boxes that his parents ordered pizza each time a new box was released. He saved the boxes and used them to decorate his bedroom walls. When the Brady family moved to Germany so did the boxes.

Tyler graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School in Germany in 2003. He dabbled in wrestling for a couple years, and he played on the Varsity tennis team. In off school hours Tyler worked a part time job at the Taco Bell on Base. Perhaps that is where his niece, Ryleigh, got her love for Taco Bell. He spent his Sunday mornings working in the church nursery as a service to the church and the children’s families. This is where his love of service to others took root.

After High School graduation Tyler moved back to Indiana to attend Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. While working at a Taco Bell in Muncie he met fellow employee Christy Catiller. The two began dating and married in 2007. After working in Indiana for a few years they moved to the Dayton area in 2012 bringing them closer to the Brady family. Tyler began his career at the Ronald McDonald House Charities first as Guest Service Manager, then as House Manager, and, most recently as Senior Manager. It is in his work at RMHC where his talents shone. He could be counted on to step in at a moment’s notice to handle whatever needed to be done. From finding accommodations for guests to dealing with distraught family members to seeing that plumbing and electrical issues were handled to working in the kitchen or helping to plan celebrations for the children who were guests at the House, Tyler was an invaluable member of RMHC team. His understanding of the House facilities and its systems made Tyler and instrumental part of its growth and expansion plans.   His caring heart and his nurturing nature made him the wonderful human being that he was. Everyone who knew Tyler was truly blessed.

Tyler was preceded in death by his Grandparents Wayne Harnish and Shirley Harnish, and his Grandmother Norma Jean Brady.

He is survived by his wife Christy Catiller Brady, his parents Victor and Jean Brady and his beloved sister Megan Brady Kilner, and his grandfather Basil “Mike” Brady.  Also surviving him are his adored nieces and nephews Ryleigh, Jared, Travis, and Gracie, Garrett and Gavin.

Other loved ones left to mourn his loss but remember his bright smile are numerous aunts and uncles, many cousins, in-laws Walt and Camille Catiller and the friends who are so blessed as to be considered as family by a man such as Tyler Douglas Brady.
