Shirlene Akers

Shirlene Akers, age 85 of Dayton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday July 5, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born February 7, 1939 in Floyd Co., KY, the daughter of the late Oscar and Annie (Evans) Akers.

Shirlene and her husband, Foster, were very active in their church, the House of Prayer in Beavercreek.  They both lived godly lives every day and loved doing church work, lifting up church members in prayer, visiting and singing with shut-ins, and praying for the sick.  They also were avid gardeners and Shirlene loved cooking and canning and always made sure nobody left their house hungry.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Foster in November of 2023; a son, Eugene Akers; brothers, Evan, Wendell, Lovell, and infant, Eugene Akers; a sister, Magaline Patrick; and two sons-in-law, Johnny Bryant and John Horn. Survivors include five children, Loretta (Butch) Wyatt, Justine Bryant, Mabeline Horn, Foster Jr. (Angela) Akers, Mark (Pam) Akers; many beautiful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Austin Akers; three sisters, Amaline Damron, Marline Spears, Avonelle Spears.

Shirlene’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the many family members, friends, and caregivers from hospice for their visits, assistance, and prayers over the last several years

A visitation will be held on Tuesday July 9, 2024 from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at House of Prayer, 1220 Wallaby Dr., Beavercreek, where a service will be held at 6:00 P.M.  A funeral service will he held on Wednesday July 10, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at the church, Elder Bill Smith and other Old Regular Baptist preachers will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Valley View Memorial Gardens.
