Sharlene Mixon, 87, of Fairborn, OH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Soin Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 12, 1934 in Stonewall, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John O. Mixon Sr, of 48 years of marriage, Rev. Clarence Barnes (son-in-law), Christy Mixon (daughter-in-law), Randy Mixon Jr. (grandson), her parents, Maggie Hollis (sister), Mary Valentine (sister), James Morgan (brother), Thomas Hollingshead (brother).
She is survived by her daughter Janet Barnes, of Fairborn, son and daughter-in-law; John O. Mixon Jr. and Kathy, of Dayton, son, Randy Mixon Sr. of Fairborn; foster daughter Shawn Hoffer of West Virginia; one surviving sister-in-law Codelia Mixon-Wayman of Enterprise, Mississippi; eight grandchildren; Sherry (David) Thompson, Sean (Jana) Mixon, Dawn Holding, Joshua (Kelly) Mixon, Amy (Jason) Kuntz, Amber (Lat) Louprasong, Brian Rogers Sr. Seventeen great-grandchildren; Cassie, Courtney, Cody, Brittany, Justin, Cara, Tyler, Alexis, Alan, Colin, Madison, Morgan, Kayden, Evan, Oliver, Samuel and Brian Rogers Jr. Four great-great grandchildren; Skyler, Ryan, Kinsley and Wyatt. She had many nieces and nephews, other extended family as well as many church friends.
Lovingly known as “Granny” to many, Sharlene was a tough Southern, Christian woman who loved and served Jesus her whole life. Sharlene and her husband, Rev. John O. Mixon, Sr. pastored and grew the Mountain Assembly Church of God in Greenville, Ohio over 50 years ago. Sharlene and Reverend John were fierce in their love for the Lord and supported multiple churches and Christian causes throughout their lifetimes. After the loss of her husband in 1999, she attended First Assembly of God in Fairborn Ohio where her beloved son-in-law Rev Clarence Barnes pastored. In her final days, Rev. John Ward was her pastor. Granny will be missed by the many family and friends who loved her.
A funeral service will be held on Monday January 31, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor John Ward officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Byron Cemetery.
