Sallie M. Hawkins

September 25, 1933 — June 16, 2020

Sallie was born on September 25, 1933 in Byrum, Alabama to the parents of Lula Burns-Phillips and John Burns and was raised by her Dad and Mary Jenkins.  Sallie moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1949 and married Claude Redwine, Sr. and to this union they had three daughters, Glenda, Evelyn and Helen and a son Claude.  On July 6, 1975, Sallie married Richard Hawkins and lived a good life.

Sallie spent her years continuing her education and traveling. On Tuesday, June 16, 2020 Sallie took wings and flew to her heavenly home.  Sallie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Linda Turner and ex-husband Claude; and son-in-law, Edward J. Smith.

Sallie leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Richard, three daughters Glenda-Redwine Gilyot  (Leo), Evelyn Alexander-Wise (John), Helen Redwine-Smith, and a son Claude Redwine, Jr. (Lynette). Three grandsons Andrew, Jr. (Sherry); Brian, Claudell; and granddaughter, Dominion; great grandchildren Katherine Lee-Ann,Elizabeth Alexander, Victoria Alexander, Andrew Jr. III, Justin and Noah.  A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, cousins and friends.

An angel now sits on the right side of God as we bid Sallie not good-bye but farewell until we meet again.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Michigan.

A private burial service will be held by the family at Woodland Cemetery.
