Robert H. "Bob" Steele

Robert H. “Bob” Steele, age 77 of Fairborn passed away Friday February 21, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 22, 1947 in Olympia, Washington, the son of the late William and Miriam (Camp) Steele. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force as the primary Technical Advisor Specialist, rising from the rank of Airman, retiring at the rank of Captain, and followed with employment at Wright-Patterson AFB civil service, retiring after a combined 52 years of federal service including a 3 year stint in the Vietnam War. Bob received his bachelor’s degree from American University and his master’s from the University of Dayton. He is known as the “father” of the NASIC web-based intelligence dissemination system, the primary way for NASIC to communicate intelligence to warfighters, policymakers and the military. He designed the system which would catapult NASIC to leading the intelligence community with information sharing between agencies.

With his wife, Huong, together they ran both East Main Party Supply and Rona Hills Grocery store from 1979 to 2006. Bob was an avid sports fan, following the Redskins(Commanders), Patriots, Buckeyes, Reds and the LA Lakers. He enjoyed playing softball, basketball, golfing and spending time with the family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Steele. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Huong; three children, Robert H. Steele Jr, Michael (Denise) Steele, Stephanie (Scott) Gerics; nine grandchildren, Brenden, Mason, Ashton, Evan, Alex, Andrew, Gabi, Aidan, Wyatt; four sisters, Mary, Meg, Lori, Sharon. 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday March 1, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor Eric Meade officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. Burial with military honors will follow at Byron Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fairborn FISH Food Pantry.
