Robert J. (Pete) Cox, a beloved member of the Fairborn community, passed away on January 23, 2025, in Dayton, at the age of 98. Born on June 13, 1926, in Johnson County KY, Robert lived a life marked by service, dedication, and kindness.

A proud veteran, Robert served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his military service, he devoted himself to a career in law enforcement, where he served as the Police Chief of Fairborn for 19 of his 27 years as a police officer with the city. He retired in 1984, leaving a lasting legacy of commitment to public safety.

In addition to his notable career in law enforcement, Robert pursued a passion for real estate as a licensed agent, enjoying the challenges of flipping houses. His entrepreneurial spirit complemented his dedication to giving back to the community. For 20 years, he drove for the Fairborn Senior Center, ensuring that seniors had access to transportation and support. He also volunteered for many years at the Fairborn Fish pantry and contributed to the Christmas in July project, further exemplifying his gentle, kind nature. In 2023 he was selected into the Legends of Fairborn for his dedication to the City of Fairborn.

Robert is survived by his son, Jeff Cox, and daughter, Cherie (Todd) Mayes. He took great joy in his role as a grandfather to Nicky (Dustin) Carson, Brian (Daniella) Cox, Kaylee (William) Nowak, and Kelsey (Amadeus) Long. He was proud to be a great grandfather to Lillian Nowak, Jay Long, Kylie Carson, Gavin Carson, Broughton Nowak, Charlotte Nowak, and Alina Cox.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Anne Cox (76 years), Willie and Esta (Wheeler) Cox, and his siblings, Clora Della (Cox) Elliott, Levina Jewell (Cox) Arrington, and Frank Raymond Cox.

Robert J. Cox will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, community, and country. His warm smile and kind spirit touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and service that will not be forgotten.
