Robert E. “Bob” Conklin, age 93 of Fairborn, passed away Wednesday July 11, 2018. He was born April 21, 1925 in Loveland, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Alberta (Reynolds) Conklin. Bob served his country in the US Army Air Forces. He graduated from Wilmington (OH) College with a BS in Physics, Math and Chemistry. Bob taught 3 years at Kings Mills High School in Kings Mills, Ohio. He then worked as a civilian employee of the US Air Force as an engineer at Wright-Patterson AFB, retiring after 32 years of combined federal service. He was a longtime member of the Fairborn Lions Club and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) where he received the Harrell V. Noble Award. Bob enjoyed his orchard and farming; was an avid bowler and Junior/Senior League bowling coach; and longtime Fairborn Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coach. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia (McCann) Conklin; son, Carl (Barbara) Conklin; daughter, Jill (Kim) Bradford; two granddaughters, Amanda (James) Kempf, Amy (Ryan) Habig; and a great-granddaughter, Lillian. A visitation will be held on Tuesday July 17, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, where a service will be held on Wednesday July 18, 2018 at 1:30 P.M., Pastor Randy Reed officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Byron Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer society.
