Richard D. Korody, age 75 of North Port, FL, peacefully passed away June 1, 2023, at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, FL. He retired to the Sunshine State from Fairborn, OH in 2004.
Born December 11, 1947, in Washington PA, Richard was the son of the late John and Valerie (Berlick) Korody. He graduated Immaculate Conception High School in the Class of 1965 and continued his education at the Institute of Computer Management in Pittsburgh, PA. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country from 1967 to 1969 on special assignment in Germany. During his career, Rich was employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in Dayton, OH for 37 years as a Program and Facilities Manager.
The highlight of his technical training was meeting his wife, Janis (Miles) Korody in the computer room at WPAFB. They were blessed to celebrate 53 years of marriage. They weathered the bright moments and the storms, including 3 hurricanes in Florida. As a father to his only daughter, Kristen (Nicole), he enjoyed watching her play soccer and was very proud of her accomplishments as “the engine not the caboose.”
Richard, who was also known as “Rich” or “Captain Rock-N-Roll”, was a social networker and established a community of lifelong friends. He enjoyed boating on the Ohio River and Lake Cumberland, motorcycle rides on his Harley Davidson, and countless dinner parties and gatherings with his friends and family.
Rich is preceded in death by his parents John and Valerie Korody. He is survived by his beloved wife Janis (Miles) Korody; his daughter, Kristen Allen, son-in-law Andrew Allen, and his only grandson Zachary Allen; Surviving siblings include Karen Mazza, Michele Godwin, Don Korody, and Fred Kubalik. Also surviving are his Aunt Mercedes Como, Uncle George Korody, and many nieces and nephews who were dear to his heart.
A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held from 10:30 A.M - 11:30 A.M. Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd, Fairborn, OH 45324. A graveside service with military honors to follow at Byron Cemetery with Deacon Max Roadruck officiating.
