Michael Stafford Himes, age 77 of Fairborn, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Southbrook Healthcare Center, Springfield, OH. He was born August 3, 1947, in Dayton, OH, the son of the late Frank Cecil and Betty Helen (Stafford) Himes.
For over 40 years, Michael worked as a truck driver, where his commitment to his job was evident.
Michael's legacy is rooted in his military service. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, demonstrating unmatched valor during the Vietnam War, for which he was awarded a Purple Heart. His courage and commitment to serving his country remained a source of pride throughout his life and greatly influenced those close to him.
Beyond his professional and military endeavors, Michael was a passionate motorcycle enthusiast and a proud member of the Grey Riders motorcycle club. He particularly enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, an activity that resonated deeply with his adventurous spirit. His love for Cleveland Browns football further showcased his personality, as he was known to be a huge fan, inspiring many lively discussions about the sport.
Family meant the world to Michael, and he took great pride in his children and grandchildren. Among his proudest accomplishments was watching his nephew, inspired by his own journey, follow in his footsteps by joining the Marines as well. This familial bond highlighted the values of bravery and service that were so significant in Michael’s life.
As we remember Michael Stafford Himes, we celebrate a man whose life was characterized by love, laughter, and loyalty. He will be profoundly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memories will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by two former wives, Vivian C. (Craig) Himes, Rebecca A. (Holland) Himes; sister, Pamela (Himes) Ferguson; and great-grandson, Michael Stephen Himes. He is survived by three devoted children, Shirley (Michael Poe) Himes, Michael “Scott” Himes, Randall “Randy” (Angela) Himes; stepson, Ryan Pebley; nine grandchildren, Donovan (Georgia) Himes, Danielle Van Ausdal, Raymond M. Rodriguez, Ashley Dawn Rodriguez, Michael S. Himes Jr., Scott Jackson, Hayden Himes, Logan Pebley, Izabella Pebley; sister, Teri (Himes) Horn; nephew and brother-in-arms, Michael Brunett Sr., K9 companion, Jake; extended family, close friends, and dedicated Grey Riders family.
A memorial gathering and celebration of life will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Fairborn Moose Lodge 1068, 1550 Kauffman Avenue, Fairborn, OH, 45324.
