Mary Jo Shade

Mary Jo Shade, age 83 of Fairborn, passed away Thursday June 22, 2023 at the Hospice of Dayton.  She was born January 30, 1940 in Fairfield, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (McComas) Rost.

Mary Jo attended Ohio University, where she played in the marching band.  An avid musician, she continued with the Dayton Philharmonic after college.  Together, she and her husband owned a Cessna 172 private plane and enjoyed flying to various locations around the country. They had many good stories about the people and places they were able to see.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, William Rost.  Survivors include her husband of 60 years, David; three sons, Andrew Shade, William (Carol) Shade, Paul (Toni) Shade; seven grandchildren, Lauren, Natalie, Anna, Tori, Taylor, Tessa, Amelia; two great-grandchildren, Xander and Zach; special cousin who was more like a sister, Nancy Lamm; as well as other extended family and friends.

A memorial gathering will be planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
