Marvin Arley Stigge

April 22, 1927 — January 24, 2023

Marvin Arley Stigge passed away Tuesday evening, January 24, 2023, after more than 95 years of a long life, lived well.  He was a devoted Christian, who died knowing that his life was secure with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, many of whom were surrounding him as he passed from this life to the next.

He is survived by the love of his life, having been married to her for almost 76 years - Jewel Jean (Lippert) Stigge; their two children - Bonnie Jean (Stigge) Howell (Ron) and Douglas Marvin Stigge (Nanci Hendricks); four grandchildren - (Tiffany Greenland (AJ), Chantelle Howell, Kimberly Gattavara (Mario), and Christopher Stigge); and six great-grandchildren - (Goldie, Zach, Anthony, Johnny, Khloe, and Aubree).

He was born in Burlington, IA on April 22, 1927.  After graduating from high school, he received his draft notice and reported for duty on July 5, 1945.  In the US Army, he became a surgical technician and served his country for 18 months.  He returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Jewel Lippert.  He worked for 42 years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant as the Coordinator of Receiving and Shipping Materials, retiring in April 1989.

He had a love for music and had a wonderful, baritone voice.  He sang in church and in many evangelistic meetings.  He sang in a quartet on Christian radio broadcast in Burlington.  He was also a member of the Burlington Bel Canto Community Chorus.

He was very active in his church, serving as an elder and a youth group leader.

All throughout his life, he enjoyed playing sports and also watching sports.  He also took up the game of golf and enjoyed many years of playing the game.  He also loved photography, taking pictures of nature and his loved ones.  He developed the skills to transfer music and slide photos onto DVDs and CDs for his family.

After retiring, he enjoyed traveling with Jewel, the love of his life, in a RV – wintering a few years in TX, CA, and AZ.

When they moved to Fairborn, OH in 2004, they enjoyed socializing and making new friends in their Park Hills Crossing community.  He played many rounds of golf and played on a church league.  He actually played golf at the age of 95 with the Heritage Golf League at Locust Hills Golf Course.

He loved and served the Lord with all his heart.  He was a loving gentle Christian man and a role model to his family and all others who knew him.  He will be greatly missed, but we are assured of seeing him again in our eternal, heavenly home.
