Lloyd Raymond Campbell, born June 7, 1938, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, passed away on December 24, 2024, at Kettering Medical Center Main Campus, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grand/great grandfather. His kindness, compassion and generosity for others was a strong example for all to follow. Lloyd’s strong work ethic showed through his hands-on projects like designing house plans and then building several homes from the ground up.

Lloyd graduated from Fairborn High School in 1958, an achievement that laid the foundation for his future endeavors. During his school years he participated in sports such as football, basketball and track. One of his proudest achievements was going to State on the track relay team in his junior year of High School. He talked often of this accomplishment.

Starting at an early age he held many jobs which included the Cemex Plant and National Cash Register (NCR), going on to retire from General Motors (GM) as a job setter. He won various awards for suggesting improvements at GM. During these years and even when at times being laid off from NCR and GM he built many houses. Retirement was something Lloyd was not going to do, so the day he retired from GM he started working with his daughter. He was a skilled landscaper and loved mowing yards fast. He trimmed shrubs like a skilled professional and finally stopped working at the age of 80 and would have continued if his body would have let him.

Lloyd belonged to several clubs including the German Club, Day-Oh Ski Club and a Snow Ski Club. He enjoyed owning many boats, cars and trucks over the years. He loved to fish, snow/water ski and putting puzzles together on his antique dining room table. Later in life he enjoyed doing Sudoku to help keep his mind sharp.

In addition to his parents, Chester and Nannie Bell Campbell (Frances), Lloyd is proceeded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Campbell-Sturgill; siblings, Chester “Pete” (Marie) Campbell, Melissa “Lis” (Jess) Banks, George (Mary) Campbell and Gloria (Luther) Allen. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Trudy Ericka Campbell (Gawlik); brothers, Scott (Marie) Campbell, Marion “Gus” (Lois) Campbell; children, son-in-law Sam Sturgill, Carolyn Alexander, Rhonda (Scott) Lilley, Angela (Chris Everett) Campbell, Jeffery “Jeff” (Sally) Turner; 11 grandchildren, Lloyd “Brian”, Amy (Richard), Danny (Jessica), Karla (William “Bill”), Kari, Amanda (Ryan), Sarah (Sean), Branden (Vanessa), Johnnie, Olivia “Liv”, Andrew “Drew”; 16 great-grandchildren, Kaine, Gage, Austin, Jerilynn, Trevor, Owen, Trent, Thaddeus, Theodore “Theo”, Ivan, Camryn, Adelyn, Jordyn, Beckham, Oakley, Remi, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, OH 45324. The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M., until time of service, Pastor and family member Joseph Holliday officiating.
