Lilly Borders

March 4, 1933 — September 22, 2022

Lilly Borders was born in Eccles, West Virginia to the late Adam and Texanna Brown on March 4, 1933. She was one of 8 children born. She was the youngest of 8 children and was a very adventurous fun-loving child.

She was into fashion and liked to dress in the latest fashions which carried on into her adulthood. She was always a sharp dresser. When she was older, she would send clothes she no longer was able to wear to her sister Norma “Baby Jean” so that she would look good also. Lilly was very feminine and loved “girly” things. She loved reading books and was an avid reader which passed down to her daughter Brenda. She loved Alfred and her family. She was very close to her mother, older sister Mary, sister Baby Jean and older brother James “Popcorn”. She had a sense of humor and loved this particular candy called “Gogo patties” and would tease Baby Jean, who would be watching her eat it and Lilly would say to her: “Your eyes may shine, your teeth may grit, but none of this candy are you gonna git”. She built friendships with Alfred and his family, whom she later married at the age of 18.

She graduated from Stratton High School, Beckley West Virginia, Raleigh County School System on May 25, 1951 and on December 28, 1951 married Alfred Borders in Harper Heights, West Virginia.

Some of the other things she enjoyed doing was creating beautiful vases, lamps, and other things when she went to the ceramic place. She also enjoyed playing cards with their close friends, baking Alfred’s favorite German Sweet Chocolate Cake for his birthday and decorating cakes that she gave to neighbors and friends. She enjoyed making rum cakes for their family reunions. She enjoyed working with her co-workers for AFFES at the Base Exchange on Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.   She loved spending time with her family at Reunions and visiting them and loved sending gifts back home when she was overseas and keeping in touch with her sister June who kept them updated with what was going on with the family back home.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents Adam and Texanna (Owens) Brown; brothers, James Charles Wagner Sr., Ollie Brown, Eddie Brown, Adam Brown; sisters, Athelene Johnson, Willie Joe Reed; and son, Lorenzo Borders.

Lilly is survived by her loving sisters, Mary Lomax Berger, Norma Van Essen; daughters, Brenda Jones, Renee Godfrey; son, Michael Borders; grandsons, Marc Borders, Stephen Rogers; granddaughters, Nina Borders, Deidra Love; sisters-in-law, Katherine Penn, June Franklin, Roberta Borders, Marie Borders; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Our beloved Lilly will be greatly missed by all because she touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
