Leon Errol Sloan was born on January 9, 1941 in Hamilton, OH to Mercedes Elaine (Shuler) and Jack H. Sloan. Leon graduated from Preble Shawnee High School and did many different jobs over the course of his life which included tool and die maker, factory worker, mechanic, front end alignment technician, vocational teacher at Warren County Career Center, and bus driver for TCN Behavioral Health. He worked for many different auto dealerships with the last one being Morningstar Chrysler/Dodge in Fairborn, OH. After that he drove for TCN Behavioral Health which was his last job before retirement and his diagnosis of dementia. Leon could build/fix anything which is a trait he passed on to his son Kenny. Leon spent many a Saturday night at Kil-Kare racing and cheering for his brother Doug who also raced. Leon also enjoyed woodworking and fishing. Home for Leon his last few years was at Wright Rehabilitation Center in Fairborn, OH. There he met many wonderful folks who helped care for him. He was known to wear his cowboy boots and his cowboy hat all around the facility day and night.
Leon is survived by his children Leslie Hurst, Fairborn, OH, and Kenny (Amy) Sloan, Centerville, OH, grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian Hurst, Sarah, Christopher, and Katie Sloan, great grandchildren Travis Butts and Joey Lamoureux, also Alice Fay Taylor, mother of his children and former girlfriend Virginia (Ginny) Maxwell. He is survived by nieces Lisa (Tom) Kurtz, Missy (Mike) Young and their daughter Marie, and nephew Tyler Lewis. Leon was proceeded in death by his parents, Mercy and Jack Sloan, his brother Douglas Sloan (2022) and Doug’s wife Helen Sloan (2019), his son-in-law Jeff Hurst (2011), along with a close family friend, Ronnie Wells (2022). The family is very thankful to his former neighbor and friend, Michelle Davidson for all her friendship, care, and concern for Leon. A big thank you also to the neighbors on Central and McLaughlin who would bring Leon meals and looked out for him before he went into Wright Rehabilitation Center.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday December 21, 2022 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, where a funeral will be held on Thursday December 22, 2022 at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Tim Walden officiating. Burial will follow at Byron Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in memory of Leon.
