K. Erik Sondergelt

K. Erik Sondergelt, age 66 of Beavercreek, passed away Wednesday February 16, 2022.  He was born June 6, 1955 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of the late Donald Lloyd and Hedwig (Heck) Sondergelt.

Erik was a graduate of Wright State University and was employed by the US Government in civil service at Wright-Patterson AFB as a physical scientist, retiring in 2014 after over 35 years of service.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fairborn, the Collegiate Sports Video Association, and the Miami Valley Astronomical Society.  Erik enjoyed supporting his community, serving as videographer for Wayne High School football and the Beavercreek High School ice hockey team.  He also served as a SKYWARN storm spotter affiliated with the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Diane; twin daughters, Ellen (John) Strawn, Katie (Cody) Hughes; two granddaughters, Molly and Kacey; as well as other extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday February 24, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the First Presbyterian Church, 1130 Highview Dr., Fairborn, Pastor Joe Hinds officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Air Force Museum Foundation, the Parkinson’s Foundation, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
