Joe Haddix, age 88, passed away at Hospice of Dayton on Saturday, June 9, 2018. He was born on July 13, 1929 in Lost Creek, Kentucky.He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Maude (Noble) Haddix, his brothers and sisters, Vergil Haddix, Edith DePew, Selena Carnahan, Ross Haddix, Blanche Landrum, Bert Haddix and Phillip Haddix. Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eliza (Carnahan) Haddix; son Robert Ray (Loretta) Haddix; and daughter Theresa (Michael) Gum. He was a loving grandpa to Melissa (Stephen) Sheets, Sean Walker, Jeff (Mel) Crass, Jon (Ashley) Gum, Amy (Tony) Janutalo, and Lauren (Paul) Durham; and a great-grandpa to Giana Gum, Mercades Hensley, Alex Small, Avery Janutolo, and Ally Janutolo. He is survived by his sister, Dove (Roy II) Margenau, niece, Phyllis (Anthony) Schad; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including Harold and Pauline Gevedon. Joe was a graduate of Breathitt High School in Jackson, KY, and attended both Eastern College and Lee College. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. Joe held positions as a Linotype Operator; worked for the Federal Housing Authority; and later established and operated Joe Haddix Realty. He was a past elder of First Presbyterian Church, member of Fairborn Chamber of Commerce, Member of Fairborn/Beavercreek Optimists, and a staunch supporter of Fairborn City Schools. He was an avid reader, storyteller, and gardener. Joe was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and Realtor. His impact on his friends and family in and around Fairborn will be felt long after his passing. He was gregarious, fiercely loyal, loving, with an infectious sense of humor and a love of life.The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, June 14th at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15th, 2018 at 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn, Pastor Karen Cassedy officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until the service.
