Joan R. Trefethen, age 83 of Fairborn, passed away Saturday January 12, 2019 at her residence. She was born July 27, 1935 in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of the late Peter and Rose (Majewski) Kowalchek. Joan was longtime member of Mary, Help of Christians Parish and Daughters of Isabella Circle 811. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 526, Enon VFW 8437, and Greene County 8/40 #204. She also was active with two Red Hat Societies: the Foxy Reds in Fairborn and the Purple Pimpernellas in Clark County. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edwin F. Trefethen; daughter, Rosemarie (Mark) Brown of Centerville; two sons, William (Sheryl) Trefethen of Greeley, CO, James (Deanna) Trefethen of Orlando, FL; three grandsons, Kyle, Matthew, Jacob; granddaughter, Ryanne; a great-granddaughter, Kaiah; two brothers, Peter (Eleanor) Kowalchek of Washington, DC, Kenneth Kowalchek of Hampton, NH; a sister, Marie (Peter) Bell of Birmingham, AL; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. The family will receive friends on Wednesday January 16, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 17, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Mary, Help of Christians Catholic Church, 954 N. Maple Ave., Fairborn, Father Thomas Nevels Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Dayton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Dayton.
