Gary D. Brookey

Gary D. Brookey, age 73 of Laura, passed away Saturday March 25, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.  He was born April 3, 1949 in Dayton, the son of Gerald E. and Doris M. (Matthews) Brookey.

Gary served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and followed with a career as a tool designer with GM, retiring after 38 years of service.  He then was employed with GE in Cincinnati for several years.

A devoted family man and talented woodworker, Gary built the home in 1980 where he and his wife raised their family and still resided to this day.  When his children were young and participating in youth sports he was very active in the Franklin Monroe Little League and was recognized for his contributions with induction into the Little League Hall of Fame.  With a heart for service and not one for idle time, he also served his community for 20 plus years on the Monroe Township Zoning Board; and was currently serving as Treasurer of Arcanum Lodge No. 295 F& AM and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton.

Preceded in death by his father, Gerald; and both sets of grandparents, Walter and Rebecca Brookey and Paul and Ruth Matthews.  Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sandy; three children, Gary Brookey, II of Beavercreek; Amanda (Joe) Dick of Bethel Twp., Matthew (Tiffany) Brookey of Monroe Twp.; four grandchildren, Matthew II, Zoe, Mia, and Oliver; his mother, Doris of Dayton; sister, Diane Camp of Colorado; as well as other extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 29, 2023 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., with Masonic and Scottish Rite services at 7:45 P.M., at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn.  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday March 30, 2023 at 10:30 A.M., Chaplain Amy Bennett officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at the Dayton Memorial Park cemetery.
