Franklin D.R. “Shorty” Vaughn, age 86 of Fairborn, passed away Tuesday January 21, 2025 and is now riding the streets of gold in a classic car with his Heavenly Father. He was born July 16, 1938 in Newton Hamilton, PA, the son of the late Herbert J., Sr. and Ethel Mae (Price) Vaughn.

Shorty served his country in the United States Air Force as a heavy equipment operator during Vietnam, retiring in 1975 after 20 years of service. Following his active-duty service he was employed at the Springfield Air National Guard base, Southwestern Portland Cement Company, and really enjoyed his time at Jim’s Body Shop. 

 Shorty is survived by many relatives, extended family, and countless friends. He left a mark on every person he crossed paths with and his kindness, quick wit, and sense of humor will be his legacy.

A gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday February 2, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. A funeral service will begin at 4:00 P.M. with Evangelist Rick Breidenbaugh officiating with military honors being rendered at the conclusion of the service. 

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
