Frances A. Gibbons

Frances A. Gibbons, age 98 of Enon, passed away Saturday September 22, 2018 at the Friends Care Community of Yellow Springs.  She was born February 15, 1920 in Rome, NY, the daughter of the late Andrew and Tekla “Tessie” (Poznar) Steve.  A proud graduate of St. Joseph’s College of Nursing in Syracuse, NY, she served her country as a US Navy nurse during World War II in Brooklyn, San Diego and London, England.  She met her husband while in the military and they were stationed in the United States, Germany, and Greece, settling in Ohio because of his work at Wright-Patterson AFB.  Frances was a member of Mary, Help of Christians Parish and she was an avid swimmer at the Fairborn YMCA and Dodge Gym at WPAFB.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, USAF Lt. Col. (Ret.) Joseph A. Gibbons in 2005; and a sister, Mary J. Belmont.  She is survived by her daughter, Mary Gibbons of New Jersey; a grandson, Devin Delliquanti (Jennifer Skog) of New York; and a great-grandson, Francis James Skog-Delliquanti, who was named after her.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday September 26, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday September 27, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mary, Help of Christians Catholic Church, 954 N. Maple Ave., Fairborn, Father Thomas Nevels Celebrant.  Frances will be buried next to her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph’s College of Nursing, Attn: Mary Ann Wafer, Development Office, 206 Prospect Ave., Syracuse, NY 13203.
