Ethel Kazue (Hiye) Couch

Ethel Kazue Hiye Couch, known to most as "Granny", passed away on November 14, 2021 in Jamestown, Ohio at the age of 91. She was known by many and loved by all.

Ethel was born in Makawao, Hawaii to Masato and Katsumi Hiye on October 1, 1930. She graduated from Maui HS and received her nursing degree in 1950 and was a proud retiree from Children's Hospital in Dayton, OH. She married Billy Couch, Jr. on March 21, 1950 in Honolulu, HI and remained a devoted wife to him for 63 years.

Nothing made her happier than being with and around family. She enjoyed sewing and loved to cook. This was a passion that she passed down to her children.

Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, Masato and Katsumi Hiye, her husband, Billy, son, Harold Dean, sister Jane Viscounty, brother Andy Hiye, and grandson, Jack.

She is survived by her children, Billie Jo (Doug) Vance, Jonna (Gary) Frankart, Tina (David) Chapman, Bobbie (Albert) Lovvorn, Mike (Missy) Couch, Jeff Couch, and Charlie (Ina) Couch, and sisters, Elaine Young and Irene Bodden. She was also blessed with and survived by 27 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other special friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Ethel and her daughter Tina’s life will be held on Tuesday November 30, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor H. Wesley Barnhill officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service.
