Ernestine Evelyn Knott, age 102 of Fairborn, passed away on Tuesday August 1, 2023 at the Soin Medical Center. She was born August 30, 1930 in Cromwell, Iowa, the daughter of the late Elmer Eden and Evelyn (Harrison) Kinkade.
After high school graduation at age 16, she worked on the farm for one year, then in a doctor’s office in Creston, Iowa. On June 29, 1941 she married her high school basketball coach Orville F. Knott and they went on to have three sons, Bill, Robert, and David.
The family moved to Fairborn in 1946 and Ernestine was employed with the Fairborn Chamber of Commerce and also was active at the Fairborn United Methodist Church in the choir, the library, and as wedding coordinator.
After Orville passed in 1993, she traveled to Israel, Scotland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France. She loved reading her Bible and listening to Christian radio stations. In conversations, she was upbeat and ready to encourage others about going to church and reading the Bible. She would often say God is Good.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Robert; four brothers, Harry, Lloyd, Clyde, Franklin; and three sisters, Ariel, Clifta, and Carolyn. Survivors include two sons, Bill (Geneal) Knott, David Knott; daughter-in-law, Norma Knott; as well as other extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday August 4, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor Chuck Shonkwiler officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Interment will follow at the Byron Cemetery.
