Ernest E. “Ernie” Hilgeman, age 77 of Fairborn passed away, Monday, January 8, 2024, at Soin Medical Center. He was born October 14, 1946, in Dayton the son of the late Erwin L. and Rachel F. (Rigg) Hilgeman.
Ernie served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service Ernie begin a career in the automotive industry, specifically, parts and supply. He was employed locally with GM dealerships, Jack Hulsman, Frank Z Chevrolet, and Langs. In his free time, he enjoyed working on his own cars, watching crime series, and indulging on a cold Stroh’s beverage. Furthermore, he was an active member of the fraternal order of the Eagles, Fairborn VFW, and Jaycee’s haunted house.
In addition, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Erwin L. Hilgeman Jr.; two sisters, Teeny, and Vivian. Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Candace “Candy” (Bateman) Hilgeman; nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, OH, 45324. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service, Pastor Bob Kline officiating. A private entombment will be held at Byron Cemetery.
