Dovetta Jean Connell “Mommy Jean”, age 93 of Fairborn, passed away Monday November 27, 2017 at the Hospice of Dayton. She was born March 6, 1924 in Kenova, WV, the daughter of the late Eugene and Alberta (Riggs) Hood. Jean was a member of Agape Family Worship Center and resided at the Central Ave. Apartments in Fairborn for the last several years. She was a very caring, compassionate, and loving person; and enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of people. Jean liked to read books and participate in mail ministry. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1993; and a sister, Leona Thompson. Survivors include four children, Susan T. (Michael) Kelley of Fairborn, John E. (Jayne) Connell of Michigan, Patrick M. (Cheryl) Connell of Florida, Kathleen M. (Michael) Adkins of Fairborn; six grandchildren, Rebecca Pridgett, Cindy McCormick, Heather Pierce, Krysta Stefanow, Jennifer Turner, Brannan Connell; nine great-grandchildren, Brianna, Alex, Shay, Bobby, Leiah, Emery Grace, Aspen, Gracen, Michael; two great great-grandchildren; a sister, June Rakes of Fairborn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. A funeral service will be held on Friday December 1, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor Mark McVey officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Fairfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
