Douglas K. Sloan

January 31, 1943 — April 5, 2022

Douglas K. Sloan, age 79 of Fairborn, passed away Tuesday April 5, 2022 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born January 31, 1943 in Dayton, the son of the late Jack and Mercedes (Schuler) Sloan.

He is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Tom) Kurtz, Melissa (Mike) Young; son (special nephew that he raised as his own), Tyler Lewis; special granddaughter, Marie Young; two step-grandchildren, Erin (Lance) Brewer, David Kurtz; brother, Leon Sloan; special brother-in-law, Jim (Samantha) McKee; two nieces, Leslie Hurst, Tamara Lewis; nephew, Kenny (Amy) Sloan, as well as their children and grandchildren and many beloved friends and extended family.

Doug is reunited with the love of his life, Helen, whom he met as a teenager, and was his wife of 55 years. She was his everything and by his side every step of the way.

After 30 years, Doug retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1995. In his spare time, Doug was an avid drag racer winning countless races and car shows; His 1968 Plymouth GTX was a labor of love with his nephew Kenny. You can find his GTX at the track today, now owned and operated by his daughter, Melissa and son-in-law, Mike. Doug’s most victorious win was in 2001 piloting his dear late friend, Dave Kirby’s 1964 Plymouth, becoming NSCA national champion in nostalgia super stock. All of the long days and nights spent at the track or in the garage, it was the friendships he gained along the way, and the time spent with dear family and friends that was priceless to him. The out of town Mopar races with his daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and friends, was icing on the cake. He loved life outside of racing attending UD and Wright State basketball games, Red’s baseball, listening to country music, supporting and help raise Tyler through his life and enjoying every moment with granddaughter Marie. He loved quiet time on a front porch rocking chair or a walk with his daughter, Lisa. He always admired his son-in-law, Tom, playing guitar and talks in the driveway with family, friends, and neighbors. All of these moments filled his heart completely.

Most importantly, Doug gave to us in return his kind, selfless, caring, funny, full of life self. He knew no stranger, and would give to anyone in need. Doug will be forever in our hearts and those who knew him will never forget the special person he was to us all.

A special thank you to the care team at Hospice of Dayton. The numerous family and friends who visited with him. Tyler, who stayed by his side while in Hospice. His daughters Lisa and Melissa, his granddaughter Marie, his brother-in-law Jim, and special family friend Terra, who cared for him in his last few months of his precious life.

A visitation will be held on Thursday April 14, 2022 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E.
