Darlene Herd, age 87 of Fairborn, passed away Wednesday December 23, 2020 at her residence. She was born February 25, 1933 in Kingsford, Michigan, the daughter of the late Ward Joseph and Edith (Fournier) Bruette. Darlene proudly served her country in the US Air Force during Korea and then supported her husband’s service and raised seven children while stationed all over the world. She was a member of American Legion Dignam-Whitmore Post 526 and she enjoyed volunteering as a cub scout leader, and more recently with Blankets of Love for Hospice of Dayton, ensuring that all patients were provided a handmade blanket. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harry S. Herd; one sister, Mary Recore; two brothers, Ward and Edward Bruette. Survivors include five sons, Gary (Paula), John (Mindy), Jim (Cindy), Jeff (Debbie), Glenn (Lisa); two daughters, Kathy (John) Conn, Janine (Chris) Pluger; 13 grandchildren, Nathan (Liza), Joey (Jill), Logan, Dylan (Emily), Caleb (Heather), Joshua (Emily), Sean, Elizabeth (Braden) ,Amanda( Chris), Ashleigh, Christine, Mia, Jaclyn; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Yvonne Bafile, Shirley (Jack) Tramontin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday December 29, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Deacon Max Roadruck officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Byron Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
