Charles "Don" D. Logan

March 7, 1930 — April 24, 2021

Fairborn

Charles Donald “Don” Logan, age 91, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021. Charles was born on March 7, 1930 in Yorkville, Tennessee; the son of the late Imus Mitchell and Pauline (Loggins) Logan. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobbie Jean (Long) Logan in 2017; brothers, John Thomas Logan and Jack Loggins Logan; and 30 Loggins cousins and an unknown number of Logan cousins. Charles is survived by son, Charles Michael Logan; daughter, Donna (Jim) Logan Welty; granddaughters, Tiffany Clark, Ashley Ark, and Kateland (Sam) Hollenbaugh; great grandchildren, Jordyn, Kira, Sophia, Lillian, and Kamryn as well as Nathan, Andrew, and Logan; and numerous extended family members and friends. Charles and Bobbie Jean were happily married in 1951 on April Fools Day. He was a Past President of Tennessee State FFA and the Fairborn Lions Club, as well as serving as a Host at his Church, Blue Water Baptist Church of Niceville, Florida.

Don grew in Yorkville, a small farming community in Western, Tennessee. The middle son of three, Don learned to work hard and study harder. After graduating High School in 1948, he joined the Air Force. He served for 10 years landing him in Memphis, Tennessee where he met and fell in love with his “Mississippi Gal” and married her in 1951. Soon he was employed by the Civil Service and his job brought Don and his family to Fairborn, Ohio and WPAFB in 1963. He retired in 1988 as Deputy in Charge of Armament Control at Eglin AFB. Known for his smile and his charm, he traveled the world for the Air Force, “talking people into doing what the Air Force wanted them to do and making them think it was their own idea.” He understood that to get people to work with you, you must be interested in their ideas as well.

An avid golfer, after retiring from Eglin AFB, Don worked for San Destin Golf Course as a host and made custom clubs. He was a people person. He made everyone feel welcome. He also took a great deal of pleasure in his granddaughters. He loved his babies.  There was little he would not do for them. When his wife passed in 2017, his family decided to move him back to Fairborn to be near everyone. There he lived the rest of his life surrounded by a loving family, amazing and loving caregivers and his dog, Lady. He changed lives until the moment he passed, and he continues to change lives today. Even at 91 years old, to those who loved him, he died too early.

For Michael and Donna, the bar has been set extremely high as to what kind of human to be.  Kindness and compassion being the first criteria for every decision. He remains the leader of the family ~ their John Wayne, Harry Truman and Will Rogers rolled into one.

For his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, they will remember their Pop as happiness, humor and so much love, even as his memory faded.

Additional thanks to Robbie Segrest, Pamela Allen, and Alice Taylor for the love and devotion as well as Eric Jefferson, Tiffany Seals and Heather Franks ~ You are always family.
