Carl E. Koontz, age 89 formerly of Thornville, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024. He was born December 31, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Rife and Ethel Mae (Owens) Koontz. Carl worked for Anchor Hocking as an inventor and designer of many household items that are still used all over the world today. He made a substantial impact on society. Earlier in his career, he worked for Boeing and North American.
Carl loved God and his family. He enjoyed camping and traveling in his Airstream, boating, and was an avid reader. He loved animals and working with his Bonsai trees.
He was a longtime member, of 50 years, at the Newark Seventh-day Adventist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Christine Marie Richards; and brother, Philip Koontz. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Doris; daughter, Margaret (Andrew) Sutton; five grandchildren: Gregory (Angela) Richards, Natalie (John) Hood, Valerie (Adam) Carrocci, Lindsay Sutton (fiancé, Mason Hickey), Christopher (Holly) Sutton; sister-in-law, Ruth Koontz; as well as his great grandchildren, nieces, nephew, and extended family. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Newark Seventh-day Adventist Church, 701 Linnville Rd., Heath, Ohio 43056.
