Bonnie Mae Derrick, 79, of Fairborn, Ohio, passed peacefully in her sleep on August 30, 2022. She was born June 7, 1943, in Surgoinsville, Tennessee to the late Charles and Elsie (Mowdy) Gatewood.
Bonnie attended First Church of God Tabernacle and served as a Sunday School teacher throughout the 1980s. She worked for Walmart for 23 years until her retirement in December 2020. Her voice could be heard over the loudspeaker alerting various departments of incoming calls. She loved when family and friends stopped by the fitting room to say hello.
Before her husband Ralph’s passing, Bonnie and Ralph were active with the Masonic Lodge. During their time at the lodge, Bonnie and Ralph enjoyed many dinners, ceremonies and social events with the dear friends they met through this organization.
Friends and family will remember Bonnie for her kindness, friendly demeanor, southern cooking and unconditional love. It was impossible not to smile when spending time with her, and everyone who met her immediately liked her sweet and sincere personality. Bonnie was truly one of a kind.
In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; daughter, Pam; step-daughter Debbie Eckenrode of CA; sisters, Bernice Burton, Gladys Freeman, and Mattie Kersey; brothers, Garnie, Dewey, Charles, Jr, James, and Lewis. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Cook (Shawn), step-daughter Kathy Miller of CA. step-son Lynn Derrick of MI, five grandchildren, Samantha and Ryan Chase and Derrick, Olivia and Connor Cook. Bonnie leaves behind many dear friends and extended family. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 11:00 A.M at Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E Dayton Yellow Springs Rd, Fairborn, Ohio with Brother Lowell Lay officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Byron Cemetery in Fairborn, Ohio.
