Betty Jane Jones

March 16, 1934 — March 28, 2024

Betty Jane Jones passed away March 28, 2024 just days after her 90th birthday on March 16.  Betty was the daughter of Delmer and Hester Shearer of Fairborn Oh.  Betty was born in 1934 in the coal mining town of Wayland Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert A. Jones, brothers Lee and Gene Shearer and sisters Shirley Coleman and Brenda Scott and also an infant sister Cynthia.  She was also preceded in death by daughter Melody Jones and granddaughter Heather Jones.  She is survived by a brother Melvin (Pam) Shearer and sons Jeff (Lynda) and Steve (Tammi) Jones as well as grandchildren Michelle, Christina, Kelli, Bryan, and Valerie and great grandchildren Klay, Jordan and Nick.  She will be missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The Shearer family moved from Wayland Ky. to southern Ohio near Jackson in 1937.  Then moved to Osborn which became part of Fairborn in 1943.  Betty was a member of the Bath High School class of 1953.

Bob and Betty loved to travel including trips to Hawaii, the New England states, the Montreal Expo in 1967, the Bahamas and Mount Rushmore and they camped in most of the states in the eastern United States.  In 1979 Bob bought Betty a trip to the Holy Land as a gift.

Betty was very accomplished in a variety of arts and crafts including painting, knitting, crocheting and baking.  For years she baked Christmas cookies with her grandchildren and baked cakes for every occasion.  She was widely known for her ability to make a birthday cake for virtually any theme.  And she must have knitted thousands of hats that she donated to churches, charities and shelters.  She also knitted dozens of comfort afghan blankets that were donated to hospitals

Betty was so proud of years as a teacher's aide with teacher and friend Eliza Haddix at Five Points Elementary.  She also never failed to boast that she was the author of a book about her life and family growing up in Fairborn.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday April 4, 2024 at 3:00PM at Fairfield Cemetery, 720 Clover St., Fairborn.
