Alice Mullendore Thomas

Alice Mullendore Thomas, 87, was born Alice Virginia Mullendore in Hagerstown, Maryland on April 3, 1935 to Donald and Katherine Mullendore. She passed away on February 24, 2023 surrounded by her husband and family.

Alice graduated as a RN from the School of Nursing at the Hospital University of Pennsylvania in 1956.  She later received her BSN from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959. She served as an Air Force Nurse at WiIlford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX where she met the love of her life, Dr. Charles Norman Thomas.  In 1960, Alice married Charles who later became an Air Force Colonel and cardiologist. She served with her husband in Chateauroux, France at 7373 Air Base Hospital from 1962-1965.

Alice and Charles have been happily married and devoted to each other for 63 years.  They raised three children (Renee, George and Bryan) who married wonderful spouses (Dwayne, Tonya and Tina). They have three grandchildren (Haley who married Billy, Isabel and Theo) and one great granddaughter (Blakely).  Alice was independent, determined, and very generous. She was a loving wife and a very supportive mother and grandmother. Alice and her husband were stationed in Dover, Delaware; New Port News, Virginia; San Antonio, TX; and Fairborn, Ohio.  Alice has lived in Fairborn, Ohio with her husband from 1976 to the present. She earned her Masters Art Therapy in 1988 from Wright State University.

Alice enjoyed finding deals at garage sales.  She was also known to spoil her grandchildren and was given a sign which said, “What Happens at Grandma’s Stays at Grandma’s.”  During the last 3 years, Alice dealt with various health issues but remained positive. She fought back from a major heart attack and suffered through dialysis so that she could continue to be with her husband. She lived life fully and loved her husband and family deeply. She will be missed tremendously.  Her husband and family are extremely thankful for the many years they had with her.

A private Celebration of Life Gathering for Alice will be held by the family.
